Before tutoring with Miss Kathleen my daughter was really struggling.  Reading continued to be a mystery to her and it directly effected her self esteem. She was calling herself 'stupid' and was often crying or angry when we did home reading.  Despite reading recovery and Fountas and Pinnell at school - Scotia was not 'getting' it.  Miss Kathleen came into our lives and brought her Read Smarter Program with her.  Immediately Scotia began to pick up reading quickly. With each session her confidence grew.  We saw a change in her; reading allowed her to feel accomplished and have a sense of self mastery.  Her report card reflected what we saw at home.  She went from Developing to Fully meeting expectations in one reporting cycle.  Now, reading is a breeze. What is more, Scotia enjoys it. She chooses to read in her leisure time for pleasure and does it with confidence.  Thanks to Miss Kathleen and the science of reading my daughter is feeling confident and has a strong sense of herself as an accomplished reader. We are so grateful.
