Meet Miss Kathleen

Hi, I’m an early literacy educator, lifelong learner, and the founder of Read Smarter. I’ve spent years supporting young children as both a classroom teacher and a one-on-one tutor, helping them build strong reading foundations at their own pace. These experiences have given me a deep understanding of how children learn and how the right approach can make all the difference in their success.

Over time, I noticed something troubling: many children were struggling to read — not because they weren’t capable, but because they weren’t being taught in the way their brains are wired to learn. That realization inspired me to dive deep into the Science of Reading, a body of research that shows us exactly how children learn to read and why explicit, systematic instruction is so effective.

I started Read Smarter to give parents the tools, confidence, and step-by-step lessons they need to teach their children how to read the right way — before frustration sets in and before kids fall behind. My mission is simple: to make learning to read clear, fun, and accessible for every child.
